XENIA — After one year of taking the Xenia Community Festival back to downtown Xenia, the Festival Committee has decided to return the event to Shawnee Park because of construction on East Main Street.
Construction of the new Xenia City Hall should be underway by late summer. The 2014 event will be held Sept. 19-20.
“The (Xenia Community Festival) Committee felt moving the festival now would be the best strategy,” Diane Hollenbeck, President of the Committee, said. “We’re happy to see the City improving and we think the move will be great for the festival and the community.”
Other than the location change, other events remain the same with Greene Memorial Hospital returning as the title sponsor and Joe Mullins and the Radio Ramblers as the headline entertainment on Saturday, Sept. 20.
The events on Friday, Sept. 19, will include the annual Balloon Glow.
The committee stated that other enhancements for 2014 are in the planning stages.
Alan Liming, president and CEO of the Xenia Area Chamber of Commerce, said he is pleased the committee is proactive.
“It’s good to see this group think out of the box,” he said. “(and) not give up, and be proactive—to keep the Festival going in Xenia.”
