Woman dies after vehicle strikes guardrail

UNION CITY - A woman was fatally injured in a crash that occurred Wednesday afternoon marking the first fatality of the year in Darke County.

At approximately 1:20 p.m. Darke County deputies along with Union City Fire and Rescue and Ft. Recovery Fire Department responded to the 12,800 block of Oswalt-Good Road on a report of the serious one-vehicle accident into a guardrail.

The preliminary investigation revealed Rayne B. Honeycutt, 27, of Union City, Ind. was driving a black 1995 Suzuki Sidekick along with front passenger Christin M. Deaton, 25, of Union City, Ind. The vehicle was traveling southbound on Oswalt-Good Road, just north of Ellis Road, when it veered off the right side of the roadway striking a guardrail end. The guardrail impaled the passenger side windshield striking Deaton, whom succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Honeycutt was not injured.

Accident reconstruction team members and the Darke County Coroner’s Office were called to the scene.

The accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
