“This is what the Lord says – your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: ‘I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go.’” (Isaiah 48:17)
As the Lord speaks to His people, Israel, He reminds them of His caring nature. He knows what is best for them. Of course that is the problem. The people don’t always believe that is the case. They prefer to go their own way. Teaching and directing are one thing. Getting someone to follow is more difficult. Without God’s grace working in the minds of the people through the Holy Spirit they could not follow the right path. Let’s face it, we are a stubborn creation as nations and individuals. Without God’s help we are not likely to go down the right path.
We so often like to focus on what we think is best for us. To know God is to know that what we think may not be that important. We may have some knowledge but God knows fully and what is best at all times. It must be our desire that He perform that best whatever it is, in and through us. We must desire His direction and best always.
Heavenly Father, do Your best with us. Do Your best through us. We know how weak we are in living a life of obedience to You. We know our witness is weak. Fill us with Your presence more completely to do Your best. Lead and direct us in Your way. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
