Xenia — The gas main work at the intersection of North Detroit Street and Kinsey Road is running behind schedule.
According to a release from the city, the numerous utilities that have been encountered while excavating for a high pressure gas main at the intersection and the rainfall over the last couple of days are preventing Vectren from finishing the project by the original completion date of April 7.
Vectren officials are now anticipating that the current work will be completed and Kinsey Road re-opened to traffic by Wednesday, April 9, weather permitting. Upon re-opening Kinsey Road, Vectren will then begin to excavate and replace the section of gas main from the center of the intersection to the west (toward Shell). Consequently, Hollywood Boulevard at North Detroit Street will remain closed until that work is completed. Vectren anticipates this work to be completed in seven days.
Until the current work is completed and Kinsey Road re-opened to traffic at the intersection, Xenia police officers will be on site during the morning and afternoon rush hours to make sure that parents, teachers, and students can safely traverse the intersection in route to Tecumseh Elementary School or Xenia High School.
Drivers are asked to continue to follow the posted detour routes until Kinsey Road is re-opened to traffic.
