TROY —A two-vehicle crash claimed the life of a Tiffin woman Wednesday afternoon.
Lauren M. Hurd, 25, of Tiffin, died as the result of injuries sustained in the accident.
According to the Piqua post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, at 2:51 p.m., Ronald L. Widner, 58, of Laurel Bloomery, Tenn., was driving a commerical vehicle northbound on I-75 in the center lane when he slowed and stopped in traffic due to road construction. Hurd also was traveling northbound on I-75 in the center lane and failed to stop in the assured clear distance, running into the back of the semi-truck. Hurd was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, however, her injuries were fatal.
Widner was uninjured.
The Troy Police Department, Troy Fire Department, Troy medics, the Ohio Department of Transportation, the Ohio State Highway Patrol Traffic Reconstruction and Commercial Carrier Enforcement team also responded to the crash scene.
Hurd’s parents were notified of her death and she was transported to the Montgomery County Morgue.
The northbound lanes of Interstate 75 north of the State Route 41 exit were closed for several hours while the OSP investigated the accident. Interstate 75 north in Troy re-opened around 5:15 p.m Wednesday, following the fatal crash.
The traffic crash remains under investigation.
