BEAVERCREEK — A website billing itself as the official website of the Beavercreek football program, announced Saturday that Nic Black has been recently named as the new head varsity football coach at Beavercreek High School.
According to beavercreekfootball.com, Black has been the defensive coordinator at Springboro High School for the past three seasons. The site said Black was previously the head coach for New Paris Graham High and has been an assistant football coach at the University of Dayton, Millikin University (Decatur, Ill.), and at Springfield Shawnee High School.
Former Beavercreek coach Scott Clodfelter accepted the head coaching job at his alma mater, Tipp City Bethel, in April.
Earlier in the coaching search, Beavercreek Athletic Director Jim Smerz had said he would first be looking within the school district for the new coach. Black works as a guidance counselor at Beavercreek High.
The job had been posted on the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s Job Openings listings on April 28 with an application deadline of April 30.
Smerz said he could not confirm Black’s hiring, pending approval of the district’s board of education later this month. He said the school district will release official information once Black is officially hired.
Beavercreek is scheduled to open the 2014 fall football season on Aug. 29 when they will host Xenia.
