XENIA — Water to four downtown buildings was shut off for approximately 90 minutes Thursday morning while officials investigated a possible main break.
City Hall, the Xenia library, the county jail and the strip of Greene County offices on Greene Street were dry while engineering officials sought the source of the water leak. It turned out to be an abandoned service lateral line, which runs water from the main to the buildings and not the main itself.
Market Street was closed most of the morning while crews filled a large hole which was dug so the lateral line could be addressed. The street was somewhat flooded but the buildings stayed dry.
“Not nearly as bad as we thought it could be,” said City Engineer Christopher Berger.
