Devotional: Do what ‘He’ says

“His mother said to the servants, ‘Do whatever he tells you.’” (John 2:5)

They had run out of wine for the wedding feast. Mary, Jesus’ mother, was there, we know not why. Was she helping with feeding the crowd, a relative? She mentions to Jesus that they have a problem. They are out of wine. Jesus puts her off. Mother’s know their children and Mary knew Jesus.

She knew He was a responsible son and would act in some way to try to solve the problem, though certainly not knowing of the miracle to come – turning water into wine. She directs the servants to listen to Him. Her words could not say it better for all ages, “Do whatever he tells you.”

Mary had full confidence in her Son, Jesus. She is an example for us all to put our trust in Him for whatever situation in life comes our way. He is able to handle every need. As we trust in Him we should also listen to Him and do as He directs. Our desire is to always hear His words of guidance and be confident that He knows what is best for us.

Heavenly Father, help us do what Your Son has called us to do. Help us live a life to His glory and help us “go” share Him with the world. Let us be His bearers of His miracle of changed lives to those around us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
