City looking for fill vacancies

XENIA — The City of Xenia has openings on several boards and commissions and is looking for qualified applicants.

Vacancies currently exist on the Civil Service Board, the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Traffic Commission.

The primary duty of the Civil Service Commission is to provide open competitive testing to the public for any classified position with the City of Xenia. The commission has the authority to see make sure employees in the classified service are appointed and retained on the basis of merit and fitness as governed by the city charter, city ordinances or the general laws of the State of Ohio. The commission also oversees promotional processes for various city departments.

The Planning and Zoning Commission provides recommendations to city council for approval of long-range land use plans and zoning code/map changes. The commission also has the duty and authority to review and issue certificates of appropriateness for construction/rehabilitation in historic districts, approval of conditional uses (development that is allowed only after meeting specific standards and receiving input from a public hearing), subdivisions of land, and changes to planned developments.

The Traffic Commission coordinates traffic activities and provides educational activities in traffic matters. It makes decisions based on city staff recommendations and in accordance with the Ohio Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devises for Streets and Highways. It also handles complaints having to do with traffic matters and makes monthly reports to the city council. The commission makes recommendations to city council and other city officials ways and means for improving traffic conditions and the administration and enforcement of traffic regulations.
