Police investigating Vermont Drive shooting

XENIA — A man was shot inside his home on Vermont Drive Feb. 22 and Xenia police are trying to figure out what exactly happened.

According to Capt. Alonzo Wilson, the homeowner may have heard something outside the home in the 1900 block shortly before 6:30 a.m. and when he went to look out the back door was shot. There were no signs of forced entry but there is damage to the back of the home, Wilson said.

The homeowner was taken to Miami Valley Hospital with non life-threatening injuries and was in stable condition, according to Wilson. A woman and child were also inside the home, Wilson said, but they were uninjured.

Police currently have no description of the suspect and no motive.

“It’s so random,” Wilson said. “It really is a mystery right now. We’ve had nothing else in this area. I think this is odd for any (Xenia) neighborhood.”

The home is a couple blocks away from McKinley Elementary School and the Xenia school board offices but neither were in any danger, Wilson said.

“Our guys got here within a few minutes,” he said, adding that they didn’t notice anything suspicious in the area.
