Cedarville Elementary School students and their parents recently participated in a literacy luau during the school’s family literacy night. The event was designed to promote literacy and encourage families to read together. At one of the stations, families read together on a cozy beach. At another station, students colored and decorated their own rainbow fish after reading the Rainbow Fish book. “If I discovered an Island” was a popular station where students used their imagination to write about their own island and draw a picture of it. Other activities for the students included creating their own leis out of letters and words, building popsicle dominoes, designing starfish cookies, and using bait to fish for words.
