FAIRBORN — Tosca Voris is no stranger to the stage.

The 15-year-old has been known to perform in front of hundreds at The Greene and at competitions with the Beavercreek Show Choir.

But those pale in comparison to what the Beavercreek High School sophomore-to-be will do this weekend. Voris will take the Fraze Pavilion stage in Kettering July 14 along with her guitar-playing father, Danny, and open for Jefferson Starship.

They were to open for Grammy Award-winner Diana Krall, but she hired her own opener and neglected to tell Fraze, according to sources. It’s likely to be the same-sized crowd, if not bigger.

“I’m excited,” the younger Voris said. “I’ve never performed in front of a crowd that big. It’s just a great opportunity.”

Danny Voris will play solo for about 15 minutes then invite Tosca up to perform three or four songs, including hits by Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon and Adele.

While Tosca Voris is a new name to Fraze, her father’s isn’t. Danny — who released a CD in 1999 and caught the attention of Fraze GM Karen Durham — opened for Hootie and the Blowfish in the early 2000s and also warmed up the crowd for Kenny Loggins and Earth, Wind and Fire, the latter coming about five years ago, Voris said.

He got the call on Wednesday asking if he would be interested in opening Sunday’s show.

“It’s been a while,” Danny Voris, a 1984 Beavercreek High School alum, said. “I was glad to hear from her.”

Voris, who has a master’s in classical guitar from the University of Akron, grew up on rock and combines various kinds of music into his instrumentals.

“I just go wherever it takes me,” he said. “I blend all this stuff together into these musical compositions.”

The two — who live in Fairborn — have been singing together since Tosca was five-years-old. Friday they sang together at the Blue Note in Miamisburg, kind of a warm up for Sunday’s main event.

“There’s just a really great chemistry (between us),” Danny Voris said.

They hope that shows Sunday as Danny hopes to further his career while Tosca hopes to jump start hers.

“It’s a great opportunity for both of us,” Danny said. “I’m very excited to be back on the Fraze stage. I look forward to what this opportunity can bring.”

Added Tosca: “I definitely want to keep up with singing. (But) I have no idea where I want to take it.”

The stage at Fraze Pavilion is a good start.
