Weimer VP of emergency and trauma services

BEAVERCREEK & XENIA — John Weimer has a passion for health care and it shines through his work as he was recently announced the Vice President of Emergency and Trauma Services for Kettering Health Network.

In his new role, Weimer is also responsible for overseeing emergency care at Soin Medical Center and Greene Memorial Hospital, while leading emergency and trauma services across the network.

“I am here to help each of our hospitals be the trusted health care leaders in their communities,’’ said Weimer.

Weimer works directly with clinical staff and the communities that host emergency care facilities. The network will care for approximately 300,000 patients in a year in the ER, therefore he believes it’s essential to ensure all aspects of care are working together to provide high quality, community-based health care.

“I love my work,” he said. “I am passionate about health care. I enjoy just being there with the people to learn new ideas in meeting specific communities’ needs in emergency care.”

Weimer was originally trained as a nurse and EMT and understands the needs of ER from all angles. Before accepting this new position earlier this year, he was director of procedural and obstetric services, overseeing surgical services and universal and maternity care in Greene County.

Weimer earned a bachelor of science in nursing degree from Wright State University. Later he advanced his education with degrees in leadership and executive development at the University of Dayton and a master’s degree from Wright State.

“It’s important that we are meeting all the needs of our patients at the moment they come in, all the way through their experience with any of our services,” Weimer said.

Weimer believes that a good department is always asking “what does quality compassionate care really mean?”

“Our nursing staff has the will and the passion for their jobs – they went to school for many years and some even have family members in health care professions, therefore this is more than just a job for them,” he added. “Our staff loves their communities, they volunteer for special events and get out and help people beyond their day to day work.”

One of the new VP’s goals is to continually adapt to the needs of the patients coming through the ER department, particularly as families are more mobile and parents and children don’t live in the same areas.

“We want patients to be back at home as quickly as possible. So it is important we examine all aspects of the patient’s total care,” said Weimer. “In addition, providing care with a community-based model is necessary as many patients want access close to where they live. That’s why trauma care is so important at Greene and Soin.”

Excited about his new position, Weimer enjoys his work each day because, “It’s a great big family here as we come together for our patients.”
