XENIA — Despite not having a main-event concert, attendance at the Greene County Fair was up officials said.
According to Treasurer Dennis Nagel, attendance increased 8.5 percent when compared to last year. An actual number won’t be available until season passes, memberships and daily gate sales are counted, Nagel said.
In the past, Tuesday was always reserved for a concert featuring up-and-coming country artists and it usually packed the grandstand. A rodeo took place instead this year and it still drew hundreds. That, and other popular events kept a steady flow through the gates.
“The demolition derby is always a pretty good draw,” Nagel said, adding that the ATV event brought out people as well.
It didn’t hurt that other than one nasty storm Wednesday night, Mother Nature cooperated.
“Weather had a lot to do with (attendance),” Nagel said.
The ride operators weren’t so fortunate as they saw a decrease in action. Nagel said the fair office isn’t privy to actual numbers but they were down.
“Part of that was the problem at state fair,” he said.
