XENIA — A Greene County Jury indicted an 18-year-old man for five felony charges with firearm specifications Aug. 11 following a shooting on West Second Street.

Nathaniel Gorman was charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony; improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation, a second-degree felony; receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony; tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony and having weapons while under disability, a third-degree felony.

According to a press release from Prosecuting Attorney Stephen Haller’s office, the alleged events took place on or about Aug. 2.

“The Greene County Prosecuting Attorney alleges and is prepared to prove that at approximately 3:41 a.m. Aug. 2, 2o17, in Xenia, an adult male resident of a home on West Second Street confronted male subjects who were inside his vehicle parked in the driveway area of his residence. The subjects ran across West Second Street and entered a Jeep, fleeing westbound. The resident, who was unarmed and standing in his front yard, was shot in his upper thigh,” the release reads.

According to the release, police officers were immediately dispatched to the scene. Officers arrested a juvenile driver of a blue Jeep that was stopped near to where the shooting took place. Gorman was located and arrested later in the day.

Results from detectives’ investigation determined Gorman to be the person who fired multiple shots while inside the vehicle, striking the male victim and the front window of the victim’s residence.

Dayton Police Department officers arrested a third juvenile. The stolen firearm used in the shooting was also recovered, the release says.

In addition to the felony charges, the grand jury returned specifications on some counts as to a three-year mandatory prison term for the use of a firearm to facilitate the offense and a five-year mandatory prison term for causing physical harm to another while dicharging a firearm from a motor vehicle.

Gorman is being held in the Greene County Jail on a $100,000 bond with no 10 percent. He will be arraigned Friday, Aug. 18 in Greene County Common Pleas Court. Court records say a pre trial hearing is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 24, a final pre trial hearing for Thursday, Sept. 7 and a jury trial to begin Monday, Oct. 23.

Judge Michael Buckwalter will handle the case.
