XENIA — After five summers of work, the Legacy Village Memorial Garden was dedicated Sept. 6.
With local dignitaries and Legacy Christian Academy students watching, the garden — located where a hospital once stood — was dubbed “A Place of Healing” by committee members.
It features a gazebo, small pond, and myriad flowers and benches creating a serene place for those wanting to eat lunch, read a book or just sit and reflect.
The Home Depot store in Washington Court House donated dirt, grass seed, cement pavers and pads, flowers and bushes and sent workers to install fences and posts.
Legacy Village sits on the 253-acre site of the former Ohio Soldiers and Sailors Orphans’ Home, commissioned by Lincoln and founded by the Grand Army of the Republic in 1869.
