Former director receives proclamation

XENIA — Wallace Gossett, Greene County Career Center’s first director of secondary of education in 1967, and current Superintendent David Deskins were presented with proclamations from Ohio State Representative Bill Dean at the school’s 50th anniversary celebration and all-class reunion Sept. 14.

The event drew over 1,000 alumni, current and former staff and students, and community members for a variety of activities.

Gossett was recognized for being a driving force during the school’s infancy in the early- and mid-1960s. He was responsible for the design of the building, equipment and technology purchases and all logistics regarding the beginning of school. The Jamestown resident served as director until 1983.

Deskins accepted the proclamation from Rep. Dean on behalf of the board of education, staff and alumni. The school was lauded for providing workforce development programs for over 10,000 high school graduates and thousands more adult students.
