Independent pharmacy coming to Xenia

XENIA — A new independent pharmacy is coming to downtown Xenia.

Barr’s Hometown Pharmacy is planning to open its doors 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 23 in space formerly occupied by Hospice. Part of a network of independent pharmacies, business partners Marcus Barr and Mark Kretzer hope to fill the void left when IHS closed its doors in July. The network has locations in Wilmington, Sabina and Hillsboro.

“We felt there was an opportunity here for an independent,” Barr said. “We really wanted to come and try to provide the hometown independent services that the people were used to.”

The owners will offer free daily delivery and feature dose packaging, to make sure customers take the right amount of medicine at the right time.

“We’re customer-service oriented,” Barr said. “That’s our first and foremost priority.”

The pharmacy will also offer a full line of medical equipment including wheelchairs, walkers and walking aids, bath aids, and first aid and wound care supplies.

“A lot of the things the chain pharmacies don’t want to deal with,” Barr said.

While they may not all be available day one, Barr added that the pharmacy will have a small selection of snacks, candy, drinks, greeting cards and gift items.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Barr’s Hometown Pharmacy is located at 28 W. Main St., and can be reached at 937-347-1200.
