Recovery Toy Drive giving to kids in need

FAIRBORN — The Recovery Toy Drive aims to provide gifts to children who have lost a parent to an accidental overdose.

“This program is a great opportunity to provide some Christmas Joy to some very brave and resilient kids,” Organizer Richard Matteoli wrote in a press release. “They are the most innocent victims in the Heroin Epidemic plaguing our community. They truly had no say so in the matter.”

Recovery Toy Drive is looking for people, businesses, organizations and churches to give to the children. All donations of new unwrapped toys, books, clothing and gift cards will be accepted.

“This is an opportunity to show these kids just how much they are loved and not forgotten,” Matteoli wrote.

It has already agreed to sponsor 30 children who recently lost a parent to an accidental overdose. Any individual can make their holidays a little brighter.

“Most importantly, I urge you to keep these children in your prayers,” Matteoli wrote. “They have gone through so much already, and the holidays are going to be very difficult for them and their families.”

If individuals would like to donate or receive more information, email [email protected]; call 937-927-1788 or see its Facebook page at www.facebook.com/RecoveryToyDrive2017. Donations can be dropped off at Lighthouse Baptist Church, or organizers can have them picked up.

All gifts will be distributed at the Recovery Toy Drive Christmas Party slated for Saturday, Dec. 9.
