FAIRBORN — Influenza is a serious contagious disease that can lead to hospitalization and even death.

Millions of people experience fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle aches and fatigue. More than 200,000 people are hospitalized in the United States each year because of complications from the influenza, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The CDC recommends a yearly flu vaccine for everyone 6 months and older.

While flu season typically peaks between December and February, it is not too late to get a flu shot. As part of National Influenza Vaccination Week, which is Dec. 6-12, Wright State Physicians is offering flu vaccinations at the Wright State Physicians Health Center, 725 University Blvd., and the Wright Health Building, 1222 S. Patterson Blvd., Suite 220, Dayton.

To get a flu shot at the Wright State Physicians Health Center, call Wright State Physicians Family Medicine at 937-245-7200. Patients also can walk in between 1-4 p.m. Fridays until supplies run out. To get a flu shot at the Wright Health Building, call Wright State Physicians Internal Medicine at 937-223-5350 to schedule a nurse visit.

Most insurance companies cover the influenza vaccine, but a copay may be required. Payment is due at the time of check-in for self-pay patients.
