BEAVERCREEK – Knowing there is a physician always available to deliver their baby provides a comforting peace of mind for expectant mothers at Soin Medical Center.

One of the many resources Soin Medical Center offers to expecting mothers is a laborist program that assures an obstetrician is always available at the Maternity Center 24 hours a day seven days a week.

“We have a pool of Kettering Health Network, independent and Wright-Patterson Medical Center physicians to provide this service to our patients,” said Greene Memorial Hospital and Soin Medical Center Vice President for Operations and Finance Ronald Connovich. “We established a schedule in order to have an OBGYN there at all times.”

“Since the laborist program began, we have had several emergency deliveries that have utilized the program. I know our mothers are thankful that an OBGYN was there when they were needed,” said Maternity Clinical Nurse Manager Laura Simpkinson.

According to Connovich, this program provides an extra safety net for expectant mothers – a way to have physician available to help with complex deliveries, multiple births and cover for a physician that may be with another patient.

It is not only an extra safety measure, but it also provides a level of comfort for the patient as well.

“I think it is very important to have OBs on rotation and available at any time for expectant mothers. In most cases, their own doctor will deliver their child, but in that circumstance where there is an issue, it is all about the safety of the mother and the baby,” said Simpkinson. “Expectant mothers should find comfort knowing that no matter what time of day, there is a qualified physician ready to help when needed.”

Connovich said they hope to grow and adapt the program as the demand increases.

“Some mothers may not even realize we have this program – all they know is that they have a healthy baby in the end. Our goal at Soin is healthy moms and healthy babies.”

Soin Medical Center is located 3535 Pentagon Blvd in Beavercreek. For more information about the program and childbirth education call 937-702-4300 or 937-395-8600.
