MIAMI TOWNSHIP — Rescue crews were called to the Clifton Gorge Nature Preserve after an individual fell over an edge Wednesday.

The victim, reportedly in his late 20s, was “caught on something steep” and uninjured, according to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said the Ohio Department of Natural Resources is handling the investigation. It said the man went off the trail and was unable to climb back up to here he was. According to news reports, the man went off the trail to take a picture and fell down the gorge.

Crews were able to assist him back to safety. He was not transported to a hospital, according to ODNR. Miami Township fire crews said this is the sixth rescue of this nature they’ve underwent within a week and a half — between Clifton Gorge and John Bryan State Park.

“We usually do about six calls in the park, glen and gorge in a summer,” said Miami Township Fire Chief Colin Altman. “So six in two and a half weeks is a little bit much. Many of those patients have been off the trail like they’re not supposed to do.”

ODNR officials will likely cite the man for criminal trespassing.
