BEAVERCREEK — Republicans filled the banquet facility at the Beavercreek Golf Club to capacity for the Greene County Republican Party’s annual Lincoln Day Dinner.

They braved the cold weather to share in Republican values and the festive atmosphere. Many came to hear key note speaker Governor John Kasich.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, and wife Fran, attended the event. DeWine, in addition to introducing the Governor, announced that the ever-popular DeWine Family Ice Cream Social will be held June 22.

He noted how both his and Gov. Kasich’s paths had crossed over the years both in Ohio and Washington DC. DeWine joked that when he first met him, Kasich had won his first Ohio election but still looked about fifteen years old. Now, many years later, the Governor noted that he has 14-year-old daughters.

The guests were challenged them to excel.

Kasich said, “Principles are more important than politics. Values mean as much today as they have ever meant. The values of honesty, integrity and personal responsibility are at the forefront. These are the values our parents instilled in us. They taught us the lessons of personal responsibility for our actions.”

The Governor recounted the highlights of his first term soundly proclaiming that Ohio is in better shape with jobs and fiscal responsibility than when he took office.

He noted that the work is not complete and that, while challenges are there progress is being made. The crowd gave the Governor a standing ovation.

Rounding out the evening was a presentation by former Governor Bob Taft, a Greene County resident, gave a tribute to the history of Lincoln and the foundation of the Republican Party. He noted that his ancestors were involved in that effort. He gave a recitation of the Gettysburg Address.
