XENIA — The Shawnee Elementary YMCA Child Care Enrichment Program celebrated the 100th day of school with a special project.

The students read the book, “100 Days of Worries,” by Margery Cuyler, which was the inspiration for the group activity. Using Cheez-It alphabet-embossed “Scrabble” crackers, the children were instructed to count out crackers making denominations equaling the number 100.

Next, the students spelled out as many words as they could with their Cheez-It alphabet crackers. The children had fun spelling many familiar words. One student spelled out the phrase “100 Days of School.”

The math and spelling lessons were a creative way to celebrate the unique day.
