BELLBROOK — Nathaniel DeLong spoke with Bellbrook City council Monday night to discuss his plans for to refurbish the Community Signs that welcome individuals to the City of Bellbrook. DeLong, through the completion of this project, is hoping to earn his Eagle badge with the Boy Scouts.

Beginning April 4, residents can expect to see some long time coming changes to brighten and renew the three.

“Over 20 years ago, the Bellbrook Lion’s Club put the community signs in and they’ve been needing a facelift for some time,” said Greg Sparks, President of the Bellbrook Lions Club. “We put Eagle Scout notifications in last year and this young man came in last fall and said he was interested in the project.”

DeLong is involved in Troop 236 out of Kettering, but a Bellbrook resident. He is a junior at Bellbrook High School and is looking forward to the challenge ahead. He has been working on the project since last fall and has been in contact with local businesses and organizations, such as the Garden Club, Amateur Radio Club as well as others to help bring his dream to reality.

“Right now, the signs are a bit run down. They’re not very colorful and people can hardly see them on the road,” said DeLong. “So, my plan is to brighten them up and get some new signs on there, because a lot of the organizations on there don’t even exist anymore. So, I am going to get rid of the ones that don’t exist and bring in some new ones.”

Fan Stop has agreed to make the local organizational signs and the national organizations are going to get them through their companies.

Currently, the sign has an empty section in the center lower area.

Delong’s plan will add a new feature to the sign allowing a banner to be draped across for organizations to help promote or inform the community. Organizations that wish to display their banner must first be eligible through certain requirements that have been established through DeLong and the Bellbrook Lions Club.

DeLong hopes the banner will complete the look of the sign, while also keeping the community aware of important information.
