XENIA — The Xenia Community Schools, in partnership with the City of Xenia and the Greene County Historical Society, will host a Dedication Ceremony for a Commemorative Plaque at 6 p.m. on April 8. The ceremony will take place in the Xenia High School Auditorium.

Two classmates from the Xenia High School Class of 1958, Class President Tom Neeld and Vice-President Bob Hagler, have commissioned a special plaque, created by Dodd’s Monuments of Xenia, that commemorates the donation of a cornerstone labeled Class of 1958. The cornerstone and flagpole were originally donated by the Class of 1958 for the Xenia High School located at 425 Edison Boulevard, now the location of Central Middle School. The old Xenia High School was built in 1957.

Neeld retrieved the original cornerstone from the High School on Edison Boulevard shortly following the tornado on April 3, 1974. The original cornerstone is a part of the commemorative plaque. Following the Dedication Ceremony, the plaque will reside permanently in the lobby at Xenia High School, 303 Kinsey Road.

The public is cordially invited to attend the Dedication Ceremony. The district invites the community to celebrate the rich history and to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Xenia Tornado, and to honor the memory of all those who lost their lives on April 3, 1974.
