CASTINE - An elderly West Manchester woman has died as a result of a serious car accident Monday afternoon.
At approximately 1:05 p.m., Darke County 911 received a call in reference to an injury accident in the 600 Block of U.S. Route 127, which involved one vehicle. Darke County deputies, along with New Madison Fire, Tri-Village Rescue, and Arcanum Rescue were dispatched to the scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1999 Buick Park Avenue operated by Everett S. Henn, 84 of West Manchester was southbound on U.S. Route 127. Henn went left of center and traveled off the left side of the roadway. He then struck a guardrail causing the vehicle to go airborne and strike another guardrail. The vehicle then overturned coming to rest in a deep ditch. Henn was treated by Tri-Village and Arcanum Rescue before being transported by Careflight to Miami Valley Hospital. Henn’s condition is unknown at this time.
A passenger in the vehicle, Phyllis E. Henn, 79 of West Manchester, was removed from the vehicle by mechanical means. Phyllis succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
U.S. Route 127 was shutdown for approximately two hrs during the investigation. The Darke County Sheriff’s Accident Reconstruction team responded to the scene.
This accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office and the Darke County Coroner’s Office.
