TIPP CITY - A Tipp City teenager is dead following a Sunday afternoon drowning at a pond near the city.

Miami County sheriff’s deputies and Tipp City police say that Kyle Quinn, 19, was riding a jet ski on a pond in the 7000 block of Tipp Canal Road, south of Tipp City when the machine stopped running shortly after 5 p.m.

Quinn reportedly jumped into the water to swim to shore when he went under the water, surfaced one time and yelled for help, before going under again. He did not resurface.

The Tipp City Fire Department and Rescue Squad responded as did Tipp City Police and sheriff’s deputies. Dive teams from around the area, including Piqua Fire Department and West Milton dive teams responded to the scene in an attempt to locate and rescue Quinn.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources was also summoned to the scene with side-scan sonar and search dogs trained to locate victims in the water.

Quinn’s body was located at 10:30 p.m.

Sheriff’s department officials said that the drowning is ruled as accidental.

The teenager was a graduate of Tipp City High School.
