PIQUA — A fire that broke out at a Young Street residence on Tuesday morning sent one person to the hospital for treatment.

Firefighters were called to a home at 320 Young Street just before 5 a.m. on the report of a structure fire. The call also advised that a victim was trapped on the second floor of the burning home.

Firefighters arrived to find the home burning heavily. Police officers on the scene moments before the fire department had located the victim at a second-floor window at the side of the home. A ladder was quickly brought around and firefighters worked to get to the victim. “She pretty much jumped headfirst into the arms of one of the guys,” said Piqua assistant fire chief Brent Pohlschneider.

“The PD guys did a great job in locating the victim.” Pohlschneider said, “They located her and were talking to her when we got there.”

It was also determined that three other occupants had safely escaped the burning home.

Once the victim had been brought to safety, firefighters began a defensive battle against the flames.

The fire was brought under control within about 20 minutes.
