Xenia Board of Education chooses Dr. Nodie Washington to fill empty position

XENIA — After stating her credentials were outstanding, the Xenia Board of Education has selected Dr. Nodie M. Monroe Washington as its newest member.
Dr. Washington replaces Lee Rose, who resigned her seat as of Dec. 31.
Dr. Washington described herself as a “innovative and visionary leader with more than 30 years of technical and managerial experience including university teaching and research/product development in a key Fortune 500 company.” She added she has “strong operational skills coupled with a proven record of empowering individuals, and designing, developing and implementing strategies that lead to sustainable growth and success.”
She has a history with Xenia Community Schools. As part of Optimists International, she worked with Xenia students in reading programs, oratory and essay contests, sporting events, and sponsorship with Buckeye Boys and Girls States. She also contributes to scholarships for graduating XHS seniors.
Dr. Washington said she has a vision on how the Board of Education can move the Xenia Community Schools forward. On top of her list is to put a strong superintendent at the top of the district. Also on her list are:
- commit to excellence and transparancy;
- align on a multi-year strategic plan;
- partner with parents;
- remove the “fear factor”/remove barriers;
- partner with organizations and institutions;
- promote the district with effective communication; and
- bring accountability to every group within the school district.
She received her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at Southern University and her Masters in Physical Chemistry at Rutgers University. She received her Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry at The Ohio State University. She also received a Doctor of Humane Letters from Wilberforce University.
Dr. Washington has been employed at Proctor & Gamble in Cincinnati as well as being a chemistry instructor at Central State and Jackson State universities.
