XENIA — There is a lot of fun to be had Saturday at Xenia’s Hometown Christmas, but there will also be the opportunity to help others.

“There is more to the Hometown Christmas … than just shopping, Santa, socializing and entertainment,” Lynn Engle, a Downtown Xenia Now (DXN) volunteer and a member of the Hometown Christmas Committee and Xenia’s Board for Recreation, Arts, and Cultural Activities, said. “When you attend and participate in this year’s Hometown Christmas event, your attendance and shopping experience can contribute to good causes both locally and abroad.”

Engle said that during the event, from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, Dodd’s Monuments, located at 123 W. Main St., will host the WAR Chest Boutique of Women At Risk, International (WAR Int’l).

“Last year, shoppers at the WAR Chest Boutique were delighted to purchase beautiful jewelry, ornaments, apparel, books and accessories with proceeds contributed to Women At Risk, a US — based non-profit organization that currently works in over 31 countries, creating havens of safety and healing for at-risk women and children,” Engle said.

There will also be a drawing for a chance to win one of six cut and lit Christmas trees that will be on display at Municipal Lot 7 at Main and Whiteman streets. DXN organizers ask for families to bring a non-perishable food item or $1 in cash to Toward Independence at 81 East Main Street to purchase a ticket for the drawing for the trees. Winners will be notified at the end of the festivities Saturday night.

Proceeds from this drawing will go to the Xenia Fish Food Pantry to help feed the 50 or more needy families who daily need assistance from the Food Pantry during the holidays.

There will also be a silent auction at The Flower Stop, 57 W. Main St., where those who place the winning bids can take home a great gift, including items such as event tickets, art and more. Proceeds benefit DXN.

And don’t forget the DXN items for sale, from mugs, shirts, shopping bags and more all emblazoned with the DXN logo. Those items will be for sale at Xenia Shoe and Leather, 19 E. Main St.
