XENIA — For Mike and Amy Taint, life’s a stage. Whether he’s on stage singing with the Dayton Opera or she’s acting on a community theater stage, the couple feels quite at home under bright lights.

Now, they’ll get to share a spotlight and are thrilled at the opportunity. The couple will star in the Xenia Area Community Theater’s (X*ACT) production of A. R. Gurney’s captivating two-person play, Love Letters Feb. 14-15.

“Mike gave me this play as a gift when we first started dating. Performing it with him is a dream come true!” said Amy. The dating all started when they were cast in the Dayton Theater Guild’s production of And Miss Reardon Drinks A Little in 2012. Soon after, they were married.

“By the time you reach our age, you have a pretty fair idea of the kind of people you want in your life,” Amy continued. “Michael ticked all the boxes.”

Mike has been in opera since 1997 and estimates he has been in approximately fifty productions. He’s a recipient of a DayTony Award and Blackburn Award for Best Actor in a musical. When he landed the lead in South Pacific and received very favorable reviews, he decided to try his hand at acting. With roles in various local productions since, he finds himself balancing his stage time between opera and theater.

For Amy, she first took to the stage in the 1970’s. After a lengthy hiatus, she returned to acting and received a DayTony Award of Merit for her role in Lost In Yonkers. Since her return, she has graced the stages of Springfield StageWorks, Playhouse South, The Dayton Playhouse, The Dayton Theater Guild and Yellow Springs CenterStage. This will mark her first appearance the X*ACT stage while Mike will be making his fifth.

What has become a signature event for X*ACT at Valentine’s, Love Letters has consistently garnered sold-out audiences and was named Critic’s Choice in 2008 by the Dayton City Paper. The evenings begin at 6:30 p.m. with a wine tasting accompanied by cheese and chocolates and the play commences at 7:30 p.m.

A unique and imaginative theatre piece, Love Letters is comprised of letters exchanged over a lifetime between two people who grew up together, went their separate ways, but continued to share confidences. As the actors read the letters aloud, what is created is an evocative, touching, frequently funny but always telling pair of character studies in which what is implied is as revealing and meaningful as what is actually written down.

The Xenia Area Theater is located at 45 E. Second St. and may be reached by calling 937-372-0516 or visiting their web site at www.xeniaact.org.
