YELLOW SPRINGS — Approximately 100 artists will gather under the shade trees in the heart of Yellow Springs to show and sell their wares during the 31st Annual Art on the Lawn from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at Mills Lawn, 200 S. Walnut St.
Presented by Village Artisans, both new and returning artists will display a variety of jewelry, papercraft, paintings, drawings, photography, caricatures, candles, garden and yard art, ceramics, glass, pressed flowers, fiber art, leather accessories, scarves, and more. New this year are author readings and book signings. Food vendors and music complement the outstanding artwork.
Roger Smith, a Yellow Springs-based artist, is the featured artist at this year’s event. He is a self-‐taught painter of landscapes, who won Best of Show at last year’s Art on the Lawn. He has won numerous awards for his work, and many of his oil paintings reside in collections not only in the United States, but also in Australia, Canada, Germany, and Finland. Smith said that his painting style varies “from impressionist color schemes to realistic renderings of the infinite detail of the natural world.”
Topping off the 31st anniversary celebration of Art on the Lawn will be a raffle of art work by members of Village Artisans, the artist cooperative that hosts Art on the Lawn. Village Artisans is not only the name of the cooperative, but is also the name of their gallery/shop, located at 100 Corry St., which houses the varied artwork of eighteen local member-artists.
