XENIA — The Xenia Public Library now carries two copies of “Wrath, and Raleigh,” bringing the public up to speed on all three of Joe Schlegel’s books.
The Xenia native began his 9-part suspense thriller series in 2012 with the release of “The Appetite of Floyd,” a gritty tale that follows the unfortunate fate of anti-hero Godrick Jasper.
”No one knew who I was,” Schlegel said, “so I was literally pitching my book one person at a time. I was finding readers. But it wasn’t until I donated them to the library that I was able to reach a slew of others.”
He found a steady stream of readers who were checking out his first novel, so he donated his sequel, “Dare to Defy” in 2013.
”The library has allowed more people to give my books a chance,” he said. “And they’re talking about them. Word of mouth is spreading, and I’m excited that the staff has given me the opportunity to expand.”
But the Xenia Public Library has been a greater resource to Schlegel behind the scenes. He has utilized the study rooms for research, he’s printed out countless manuscripts to edit by pen, and all of his books were formatted and uploaded to his publisher through the library’s internet access.
”The library has nurtured me so far, and it’s humbling to see it continuing to support me,” Schlegel said.
