Losing a great citizen

April 16 the city of Xenia lost a great citizen. Mr. Jack H. Newhouse passed away. He served in the US Army during World War II as a combat medic. He returned home from the war, completed his college degree earning a masters degree in biology from George Peabody College in 1952.

He taught high school science at the O.S.S.O. Home, later known and O.V.C.H. from 1947 until 1981. I’m sure with his education he could have chosen a more lucrative career, but he loved teaching young people at the “Home.” He touched the lives of literally thousands of young people at the “Home.” He was such a humble man I’m not sure he even knew how much he was loved by his former students.

I have never heard anyone in the 50 plus years I have been associated with the “Home” say a bad word about him. Rest in Peace Mr. Newhouse, I love you.
