Devotional: Serious givers

0

“From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.” (Luke 12:48b)

Responsibility is not a passing concept for our God. He works in the world, gifting persons, expecting them to produce, expecting them to be responsible with what they receive. The gift of human life is not a vacation. The gift of life is for a purpose to enhance the world. Each individual has a part to play in the grand puzzle of creation. Each individual has a responsibility to find out what that part is and to play it. If our gift is small or large that is not what is important. Every part is needed for a successful creation. Every person is created for work by their Creator.

Our talents, gifts and finances are resources for our world. They are the tools our God directs us to use for the good of all. Whatever we have received from our Creator is to be laid at His disposal. Our desire is to use our blessings to bless others. Our God is not asking that we be good givers, He is demanding it. It is what He expects if we are serious about following His Son.

Heavenly Father, honestly we hold back on our giving. We resist being truly generous with the gifts You have given us. We fall short of Your giving to us. Forgive us and help us by Your Spirit to mature as obedient givers according to Your will. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
