BELLBROOK 65, FRANKLIN 41: The host Bellbrook Golden Eagles (1-2, 1-0) opened Southwestern Buckeye League, Southwestern Division play with a record tying win Thursday. With Franklin running and shooting well in the early going, the Eagles trailed 18-16 after the opening period. Junior Hannah Songer then led a second-quarter charge and the Eagles took a 33-27 lead into the locker room.
The second half proved to be all Bellbrook with Songer (who had three 3-pointers in the first half) again leading the way, and Bellbrook played solid defense in the second half as well.
Songer led all scorers with 17 points, and senior Chea Taylor chipped in with 15. Nine players on the Eagles roster scored, and the team tied a school record by converting 11 three-point shots on 26 attempts. Songer led all rebounders with seven boards while junior Lexie Seger, senior Emily Smith and Taylor each had six. The Eagles also had 18 steals.
Weather permitting, Bellbrook will host Valley View today. The freshman game is scheduled for a 10:30 a.m. start.
XENIA 33, WEST CARROLLTON 31 (Seventh Grade): Xenia opened its season in winning fashion Wednesday by defeating West Carrollton. Davion Boccarra led all scorers with 13 points. Corey Burnette had nine points, including a 3-pointer that sealed the win. Blaine Dudley added five points, Trace Howdyshell scored four and Warren Mahar came off the bench and made two free throws to aid in the win. The team’s next scheduled game is today at Centerville’s Watts Middle School.
