Dutch Lions hosting team tryout in February
DAYTON – Dayton Dutch Lions Futbol Club is in the midst of assembling a team to make a second consecutive run to the United Soccer League Pro playoffs. The club hopes that the final pieces of the roster will be discovered at an open tryout to be held on Saturday, Feb. 22. All skilled, eligible players that want to compete for a winning organization are invited to register and participate in the open tryouts. Top participants will be invited back for additional evaluation on Feb. 23.
This will be the fourth season in USL PRO for Dayton Dutch Lions FC, whose record has improved every year. The Dutch Lions advanced to the USL PRO playoffs for the first time in 2013. The Dayton Dutch Lions are affiliated with the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer, and the team has a partnership with FC Twente of the Dutch Eredivisie.
The open tryouts will be overseen by Dutch Lions head coach Sid van Druenen and other members of the technical staff. The day will begin at 9:30 a.m. with an introduction and brief remarks from van Druenen. The morning session will consist of small-sided games. Following a lunch break, the afternoon will feature 11-on-11 matches. The day of open tryouts will come to a close at 5 p.m.
Players who show the most promise will be invited back for two additional training sessions on Sunday. The first session will begin at 10 a.m. The second session gets underway at 2:30 p.m.
“These open tryouts are a great opportunity for players to achieve their dream to play, or continue to play, professional soccer and we have high expectations from this specific try out. The level will be high and we expect to hand out the last couple of contracts during this weekend, just like we have done in previous years,” Van Druenen said.
The tryouts will be held on the turf field at the Miami Valley School, located at 5151 Denise Drive in Dayton. Registration can be completed at http://www.daytondutchlionsfc.com/site/2014-open-try-outs. A registration fee of $125 includes lunch and a numbered T-shirt to be worn during tryouts. An additional $25 fee will be required for anyone registering the day of the open tryout.
