COLUMBUS — The U14Roush/McCann of Magic Volleyball Club took home the silver medal from the Ohio Valley Regional Tournament held in Columbus.


The team, based out of Beavercreek and Xenia, went 3-0 in their robin matches. They defeated Club Ashtabula in two sets, Club Positively from Mt. Vernon in two sets and Players Choice of Akron in three. The 3-0 round robin record qualified them for the gold division in their bracket.


In the quarterfinals, the Magic upset F-5 from St. Caresville in three sets. They then moved on to play Facing Club Extreme from Massilion in the semi-final. The pulled off an even bigger upset in that round, winning in three sets. The lost to Cleveland’s Northshore Club in two sets during the finals matchup.


“The girls had a great day,” said coach Sarah Roush. “They gave everything they had and did a good job of holding their own against this team. They came out of that tournament silver medalists and that’s nothing to hang their heads about. ”


Erica Boone (Stebbins) was named Offensive Player for the 2014 season and led the team with 117 kills, and 53 blocks for points. Liz Malek (Beavercreek) was second on the team with 80 kills and five blocks. Rachel Rupert (Beavercreek) followed with 74 kills, and five blocks for points. Mia Witker (Bellbrook) contributed 58 kills, and one block for a point, while Sydney Copeland (Beavercreek) added 57 kills and three blocks for points to the record books.


Anna Nartker, St. Luke’s (Beavercreek), won the Defensive Player for the 2014 Season with 133 digs.


“Anna did a fantastic job of Libero,” said Roush. “She has great instincts, and she is playing up a year.”


Natalie Seeman (Tipp City) followed right behind Nartker with 97 digs. Third on the team was Rupert with 95. Camryn Joseph of Fairborn had 94 and Marissa Boggs of Tecumseh finished out the record books with 79 digs.


Most Improved went to Maria Schlegel, Ascension (Kettering). She was credited with 40 assists.


The Coach’s Award went to Eva Hanson of Bellbrook.


“Eva was our setter and she did a phenomenal job with both the 14’s and she also played on the 16’s as well.” said Roush. “She hit well for us with 98 kills, and six blocks for points and she is credited with 297 sets.”


Leading in aces for the Magic group was Hanson with 99, Rupert with 56, and Nartker with 51 aces.
