Norman set for World Championships

EDMONTON, Alberta, Canada — After a series of flight delays, Xenia Christian junior Grace Norman arrived Friday morning for the International Triathlon Union World Championships.

After a two-hour delay in leaving Dayton, Norman missed her connecting flight out of Chicago, had to re-direct to Ottawa (which is in the opposite direction of where she needed to go), then after a nearly 9-hour delay there, caught a flight to Edmonton, where she arrived at 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

While in Ottawa, Norman learned that her specially prepared bike was still in Chicago. When she arrived in Edmonton, her bike was there waiting for her.

She was unable to attend Thursday’s Opening Ceremonies, but she began training in the water portion of the paratriathlon course Friday morning.

Norman, a T-44 class paratriathlete, is competing as part of the United States ParaTriathlon team. One hundred international athletes are expected to compete in today’s 3:30 p.m. event.
