XENIA — Born in Xenia Township in 1843, Robert Spahr enlisted in the Ohio Volunteer Infantry at the age of 17 for a three year period. He took part in 40 engagements during the Civil War including the battles of Chattanooga, Chickamauga, Lookout Mountain and Missionary Ridge. He was seriously wounded, but remained in the service as a clerk in the office of a general in Columbus. He was discharged in 1864. He lived in Caesarscreek Township and when he retired in 1903 he moved to Xenia. He was one of the last surviving members of Lewis Post, Grand Army of the Republic.
