XENIA — Finlay Torrence was born on Xenia and then educated at Harvard, he became a newspaper reporter with the Xenia Republican. He later assumed the leadership of McDowell and Torrence Lumber Company. Using his writing skills, he founded a lumber trade magazine called Wood Construction and Building Materials. He opened his own printing business known as the Buckeye press. He was one of the founders of the Xenia Area Chamber of Commerce. The Torrence Aware is named in his honor.
