XENIA — John Roan was the first African-American resident of Xenia to be killed during World War I. He died somewhere in France, but his body was returned to Xenia to be buried in Cherry Grove Cemetery. When the American Legion Post No. 517 was established for African-American Veterans, the Post was named John Roan Post in his honor.
