Lawhorne gets gold at HOSA conference

XENIA — Greene County Career Center junior Tyra Lawhorne led a strong group of competitors at the recent Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) State Leadership Conference at Tolles Career and Technical Center. Lawhorne won gold in the Clinical Nursing competition and earned a spot at the HOSA National Leadership Conference at the Coronado Springs Resort near Orlando in June.The team of Taylor Adkins and Katie Patterson finished top five in the Emergency Medical Technician event. Laura Smith also was recognized for a top five finish in Clinical Nursing. Lawhorne, Adkins, Patterson and Smith are all from Fairborn High School, and enrolled in GCCC’s Health Science Academy.

Man dies in Shawnee Lake

History of Zion Baptist Church

XENIA — As Zion Baptist Church prepares to celebrate its 175th anniversary this weekend, the church has shared its history going all the way to the beginning.The 14 original members, all free-born Negroes from Virginia, settled in Greene County to help promote the Underground Railroad.
