FAIRBORN — The Wright State softball program, under first-year head coach Ray Loeser, has received national letters of intent from six players. Joining the Raiders for the 2018 season will be Jordyn Poulson, Kenna Ross, Kaiti Skinner, Mackenzie Soma, Madison Whitaker and Jada White.

Poulson (Huntington, Ind./North), an outfielder, was the recipient of the Most Versatile Bat Award and the Crossroads Northern Indiana All-Star Top Speed Award as she was part of the North team that finished as a 4A Semi-State Runner-Up. She also was a Top Recruit All-Star Team member. Off the field, Poulson is a member of the National Honor Society and is a Scholar-Athlete Award winner.

Ross (Lizton, Ind./Tri-West), a utility player, was a First Team All-Sagamore Conference honoree in 2015 and 2016, leading the conference in home runs as a sophomore. A First Team All-Hendricks County selection in 2016, Ross was part of the Tri-West teams that won sectional titles in 2014 and 2015 and the 3A regionals in 2015. In the classroom, Ross was the 2016 Tri-West softball scholastic award winner.

Skinner (Danville, Ind./Danville), a catcher, was a Second Team all-conference selection as Danville won the 3A sectionals last season. Her travel team, Shockwaves Ramsey, was the 2016 Indiana ASA Regional Champions. Skinner is a member of the National Honor Society and was the recipient of the Danville Mental Attitude Award.

Soma (Gahanna Lincoln), a utility player, was a Second Team All-Ohio Capital Conference selection in 2016 after earning Honorable Mention all-conference honors as a sophomore. Recipient of the Golden Glove Award for top defense and the Scholar-Athlete Award, Soma has been a part of Lincoln teams that have advanced to the Division I regionals each of the last three years.

Whitaker (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine), an infielder, earned all-conference and all-county honors as a junior as she batted .459 and led the team in doubles and triples. She batted .536 for her travel team, Lids Dreams, last summer as they were the ASA state champions.

White (Madison, Wis./East), a shortstop, was a Second Team All-Big 8 Conference selection as a junior after being named Honorable Mention as a sophomore. She hit .508 as the team won a regional title. White was chosen as the Defensive Player of the Year last summer for her travel team, B.A.T.S. Academy.

Wright State opens the 2017 season Feb. 10-12 at the Houston Hilton Plaza Invitational in Houston, taking on Wichita State, Boston College and California Santa Barbara along with the host Cougars. The home opener for the Raiders is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, against crosstown rival Dayton.
