CEDARVILLE – A food drive to offset a hunger concerns in Clark and Greene Counties will culminate Friday, Dec. 2, when Springfield Emmanuel Christian Academy tips off against host Cedarville High School.
The varsity game begins at 7 p.m.
Cedarville and Emmanuel Christian are competing to see which school collects the most food for “The Hunger Game” on Dec. 2. Residents can drop off food donations at each school beginning Monday, Nov. 28, until Thursday, Dec. 1. The amount collected will be announced at the basketball game between the two rivals.
In support of the effort, Cedarville University designed T-shirts for the drive that will be sold by each school. All of the money from the sales, anticipated to be $300, will be given to their local food pantries.
“We create rewards programs for student grades all the time, but this time we’re doing something that truly will impact our communities,” said Chad Mason, superintendent of Cedar Cliff Local Schools. “I am very thankful for the involvement from Emmanuel Christian, Cedarville University and our school. It’s clearly a worthwhile event that we all can support.”
The food collected by Emmanuel Christian Academy will be given to the Clark County Food Pantry. Cedarville High School will donate its food to the Cedarville United Presbyterian Church food pantry.
“We chose to support our local community food pantry and two local high schools that send us great students every year,” said Janice Supplee, vice president for marketing and communications at Cedarville University.
