DAYTON — Carroll High School senior Abby McNamara was recently named an All-American by the National Soccer Coaches of America Association.
McNamara, who will attend Wake Forest University on an athletic scholarship, is a four-time Division II All-Ohio selection. She was named to the All-Ohio second team as a freshman and sophomore; and was a first-team choice her junior and senior seasons.
“It’s a huge honor to be named to the All-America team,” McNamara said. “This is something I’ve dreamed about since I was a child, and it feels amazing to receive this honor. I couldn’t have done it without my team and coaches.”
This past season, McNamara was third in the Greater Catholic League Co-Ed with 13 goals and seven assists. She scored 57 goals and had 31 assists during her high school career. McNamara has been named to the All-GCL Coed first team all four years, and was an NSCAA All-Region selection last season.
She’s been the GCL Co-Ed North Division Athlete of the Year for the past two years.
“Abby is absolutely a one-in-a-million type player. She is the best player I have seen come through Carroll,” said Carroll varsity girls soccer coach Abby Flach. “Carroll has produced some phenomenal girls’ soccer players, but Abby is in a class all her own and deserves this award. Her natural talent separated her from the beginning, but what really marks her as that special player is her work ethic and her desire to be the best player she can be. We will miss her without a doubt, but we have enjoyed learning from her these past four years and having her leave her legacy here at Carroll.”
Players on this year’s NSCAA High School All-America Teams will be formally acknowledged for their accomplishments at the NSCAA All-America Luncheon on Jan. 14, 2017 at the Los Angeles Convention Center in conjunction with the 2017 NSCAA Convention.
