High School Action

Xenia tops Belmont

XENIA — Jada Wallace scored 15 points, had 11 rebounds, four steals and two assists to lead Xenia to a 45-17 win over Belmont Monday. Astella Welsh added eight points, five rebounds and three steals, while Trinity Morton-Nooks added eight points, seven rebounds and four steals. Xenia is 2-7 overall and hosts Fairborn 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Carroll junior in showcase

RIVERSIDE — Carroll Patriots junior centerfielder and shortstop Camryn Joseph, a Fairborn resident, has been chosen to participate in the Queen of Diamonds Showcase January 7-8 in Delaware, Ohio. Joseph was selected based on a variety of criteria including ability, academic standing, coach requests and referrals. The QDS is a selection-only event and is expected to draw top athletes from more than 20 states and Ontario. Coaches from 15 Division I, II, III, NAIA, and junior colleges will be represented.

Middle School Action

XENIA — Warner Middle School’s eighth-grade boys basketball team defeated Fairborn, 58-32, Monday. Alex Williams led the Bucs with 18 points. Dylan Hoosier added 15, Isaiah Hoyt seven, Zack Gaither six, Kevin Johnson five, Cole English four, and Mike Thompson three. The 5-0 Bucs host Mad River Wednesday.

Xenia Athletic Hall of Fame ceremonies set

XENIA — The 2016 class of inductees to the Xenia Hall of Fame will be introduced at the Jan. 13, 2017 Xenia High School boys varsity basketball game. This is the sixth class to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

The 2016 Hall of Fame class, consisting of William “Bill” Wilson (track, and cross country coach 1954-‘79); Dr. David Hazel (football, track, class of 1970); Erin Hawley (swimming, 2008); Kristi Cope Elsman (soccer, basketball, 1993); Nick Ungard (golf, basketball, 1952); Richard Bennett (educator, coach, civic leader, 2016); Shawn Thigpen (basketball, track, 1993); Steve Smith (wrestling, 1988); and the 1985-86 XHS wrestling team, will attend the induction ceremony, which is set for 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017 at Faith Community United Methodist Church, 100 Country Club Dr. Any community member may attend. Fairborn induction set for Jan. 14

FAIRBORN — The Fairborn High School Athletic Department will host its third Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony beginning with a 4:30 p.m. dinner Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017 in the FHS Commons.

The 2016 Hall of Fame class consists of Ed McCloud (Fairborn class of 1964, football, baseball); Jackie (Smith) Whitaker (Park Hills class of 1981, volleyball, basketball, softball); Veasna Tith (Fairborn class of 1998, tennis); Fred J. Buschmeyer (Fairborn track and field, cross country, basketball coach); and the 1970 boys basketball district championship team.

The official induction ceremony will take place approximately 7 p.m. after the reserve boys basketball game at Baker Memorial Fieldhouse.
