Skyhawks No. 2 at Baker Bash

BEAVERCREEK — The Fairborn Skyhawks girls bowling team shot a score of 1,632 in 10 baker games to have a third place seeding for head to head baker competition. The head-to-head competition involved the best 2 out of 3 games. The team first faced Fairfield. They lost the first game, won the second with a 229, and won the third game by 10 pins with a 159. In the second round of competition, the Skyhawk girls defeated Kettering Fairmont in two games with a 236 and 180. The final round of competition was against the top-seeded team in the tournament, Beavercreek. Fairborn shot a 175 and 175 for the two-game set, but Beavercreek rolled games of 193 and 196 to claim the overall win.

Xenia bests Rams

XENIA — A pair of 300-plus series by Caity Moody and Kailee Palecek led the way as Xenia claimed a 1,830 to 1,001 win over Trotwood-Madison on Jan. 19. Moody rolled a 371 two-game series, while Palecek was next on the list with a 345. Kelly Fullen tossed a 280 series, and teammate Sage Turner threw a 277. Shayna Caraway and Kiersten Channells threw respective games of 144 and 118 in the Bucs win.

Xenia, now 8-3 overall and leading the Greater Western Ohio Conference’s American South division with a 7-1 record, bowls next at Capri Lanes against American South foe West Carrollton at 4 p.m. Jan. 24.

Beavercreek wins over Warriors

BEAVERCREEK — Raven Cooper, Emily Florkey and Cameron Reich each tossed 400 series to lead the Beavercreek girls bowling team to a 2,321 to 1,809 win Jan. 19 over Huber Heights Wayne.

Cooper rolled a 460 two-game series, Florkey was next with a 416, and Reich was close behind with a 406. Games were tossed by Kaylee Fernatt (189), Brittany-Ann O’Connell (180), someone named Sub Score #2 (159) and someone else named Sub Score #1 (149).

The Beavers are back to the bowling lanes on Friday, Jan. 27, when they’ll take on Greater Western Ohio Conference National East foe Centerville for a 4 p.m. match at Poelking Lanes South.

Buccaneers defeat Trotwood

XENIA — Ryan Day rolled a 404 two-game series to lead the Xenia boys varsity team to a 2,240 to 1,515 win over Trotwood-Madison on Jan. 19. Other series scores for the Buccaneers were rolled by: Nicholas Harbison (362) and Zane Eneix (361). Trotwood’s Daylon Dulverglass had a solid outing in a losing cause, tossing a 403 two-game series.

Xenia’s next match will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 24 when they’ll bowl against West Carrollton at 4 p.m. at Capri Lanes.

Beavers take over first

BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek boys bowling team needed every pin it could get in a narrow 2,368 to 2,358 win on Jan. 19. With the win, the Beavers took over first place in the Greater Western Ohio Conference’s National East divisi0n with a 7-2 overall mark, 5-2 in the division. Wayne fell to 5-2, 4-2 GWOC National East.

Michael Donahue turned in the top series for Beavercreek, a two-game score of 463. Nicholas Wood (376), Cole Dorsten (371), and Forrest Ewing (357) also tossed solid two-game series in the win. Seth Koloski rolled a 212 game and “Sub Score #1” tossed a 183. Beavercreek next rolls against Centerville at 4 p.m., Friday Jan. 27, at Poelking Lanes South.

Bulldogs fend off Troy Christian

YELLOW SPRINGS — Elizabeth Smith turned in a triple double with 18 points, 10 steals and 15 defensive rebounds in a Jan. 19 45-40 girls basketball win over Troy Christian. Yellow Springs teammates Morgan Minnich and Julian Roberts also finished in double-figure scoring. Minnich ended up with 16 points while Roberts tossed in 10. Ayanna Madison snared nine rebounds in the Bulldogs win.

Yellow Springs is now 7-8 overall, and 3-3 in the MBC. They’ll host Middletown Christian next, at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23.

Hornets edge LCA

MONROE — Host Monroe outscored Xenia Legacy Christian Academy, 11-7, in the final eight minutes of play for a 34-33 girls basketball win on Jan. 19. No individual statistics were available for either team. Legacy Christian is now 9-5 overall this season. The Knights get back into Metro Buckeye Conference play on Monday, Jan. 23 when they’ll host Troy Christian for a 6:45 p.m. contest.

JYSB registrations now

JAMESTOWN — The Jamestown Youth Softball and Baseball organization will hold registration opportunities for the upcoming 2017 season from Jan. 11 through Feb. 15 for all leagues. A new division, Ram-Ball, will be offered as a way to create interest in baseball and softball for youngsters ages 3 and 4. Late registration will run through March 3, but includes an additional late fee.

Costs are as follows: Ram-Ball (co-ed, ages 3-4) $35; T-Ball (co-ed ages 5-6) $75; 8U Coach Pitch (ages 7-8), 10U (ages 9-10), 12U (ages 11-12), and 15U (separate from OHSAA, season begins after the high school season ends) $75.

Reds Caravan set

CINCINNATI — The 2017 Cincinnati Reds Caravan will make a stop in Dayton from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the National Museum of the United States Air Force on Jan. 28, as part of the caravan’s North Tour.

At each of the 17 fan stops, the groups will field questions and sign autographs while time allows. All Caravan fan stops are free and open to the public, and at each fan stop the Reds will raffle two tickets to the 2017 Opening Day game on Monday, April 3 (4:10 pm) vs. the Philadelphia Phillies.
