Golden Eagles defeat Dixie

NEW LEBANON — The Bellbrook girls varsity softball team defeated league rival Dixie, scoring seven of the team’s 17 total runs in the first two innings on May 3. Kaley Clark started the game and got the win, while Tatyana Apanasewicz threw five strikeouts in relief. Sam Seubert hit a single, triple and home run in the game. Bellbrook (6-11 overall, 6-6 in the Southwestern Buckeye League’s Southwestern division) is home for a 4:30 p.m. Friday contest against Waynesville.

Buccaneers win over Fairborn

XENIA — Host Xenia (8-10, 6-4 Greater Western Ohio Conference, American South) claimed a 5-0 boys high school tennis win over Fairborn (1-17, 1-9 GWOC American South) on May 2 on the Greene County Fairgrounds tennis courts.

SINGLES: 1. Kenneth Klontz (Xenia) def. Tyler Fillback 6-1, 6-1; 2. Dorien Morris (Xenia) def. Harry Huynh 6-2, 6-0; 3. Zane Cukovecki (Xenia) def. Heidi Wahlstrom 6-0, 6-0.

Skyhawks fall to Bulldogs

YELLOW SPRINGS — The Fairborn tennis team traveled to Yellow Springs to face an experienced Bulldogs team on May 1. The inexperienced Skyhawks were no match for the hosts, dropping an 0-5 verdict.

While all of the matches were competitive and entertaining to watch, the scores heavily favored Yellow Springs.

With regular No. 1 singles player Tyler Fillback out with the flu, Eli Smith, Titus Smith and Heidi Wahlstrom suffered similar 0-6, 0-6 losses in their respective first, second and third singles matches.

Austin Suther and Shayla Murray lost at first doubles, while Corynn Spahr and Mary Shaw lost at No. 2 doubles by similar 6-1, 6-0 scores.

Jamestown Chamber golf outing in May

JAMESTOWN — The annual Jamestown Chamber of Commerce golf outing will take place Friday, May 19 at Sebastian Hills Golf Course, 1100 Knoll Haven Rd. in Xenia. The outing will start at 11 a.m., with registration opening at 10am. Come early to take advantage of the free driving range and putting green privileges, as well as getting a hot dog or two courtesy of Countryside Propane

Participants will be able to enjoy beverages and snacks, courtesy of the Chamber, and when the golf is over Kelley’s Café will be providing all participants and volunteers a wonderful meal at the golf course. Registration information for sponsorship and playing, including payment options, are available on the Chamber’s website (www.jtchamber.com) or by emailing [email protected]. The deadline for registration is Friday, May 12.

The annual golf outing is the main fundraising activity for the Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce which allows the Chamber to provide various activities, programs and scholarships to the Jamestown and surrounding communities.

Tornadoes football fundraiser, May 12

XENIA — The Xenia Tornadoes semi-professional football team will host a fundraiser from 5-9 p.m. Friday May 12 at the Chipotle restaurant at 1620 West Park Square. Tell the cashier that you’re supporting the team and 50 percent of the proceeds will be donated to the Xenia Tornadoes semi-pro football team.

Bowl with the Reds, June 4

Girls basketball camp

BEAVERCREEK — The 17th Beavercreek Girls Basketball Camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. June 5-8 at Beavercreek High School. Cost is $90 per camper. Cost is $80 for any camper who registers before May 20. Girls in grades 1-8 are eligible for the camp, which will be hosted by BHS girls basketball coach and three-time Ohio coach of the year Ed Zink and BHS girls basketball’s all-time leading scorer Amanda (Reese) Crockett. Current and past BHS basketball players will also be on hand. The last day of camp, June 8, is Mother-Daughter Camp Day. Family members are invited to participate.

Junior Golf Camp, league in June

XENIA — WGC Golf Course in Xenia will host its Miami Valley Junior Golf Association 31st Annual Junior Golf Camp, from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. June 19-22 for boys and girls ages 8-17. Campers will receive daily instruction on stroke technique, golf etiquette, the rules of golf. Golfers will also get time on the practice tee and putting greens to work on stroke technique. All golfers will also play daily on the WGC Golf Course. Long-time Golf Camp Director and former Stebbins High School golf coach Jim Beaver will be joined by co-director Roy Cassidy (head Girls Golf Coach at Carroll High School), Beavercreek varsity boys golf coach Chris Nartker, Stebbins boys golf Coaches Rick Pagniano and Shane Williams, and former Trevecca Nazarene University All-American golfer Betsy Beaver, who is now the varsity girls golf coach at Westerville North. WGC will also have its Wednesday Junior Golf League starting at 10:45 a.m. June 28. This nine-hole league will continue each Wednesday through July. Golfers with some playing experience are welcome to compete. Information about the league can also be found at www.wgcgolfcourse.com.

CSU hosting youth football camp

WILBERFORCE — The annual Central State University Youth Skills Football Camp will take place Thursday, June 15 on the CSU campus. The Central State University Department of Athletics is committed to providing an exceptional camp experience for campers of all ages and skill levels. Campers will have the opportunity to learn more about the sport of football from CSU coaches & players while improving their skills. All participants are encouraged to register for the camp online at www.maraudersportscamps.com/index.cfm.

The camp is open to youth ages 7-15. Cost is $30 per individual. Registration deadline is June 12, but walk-up registration will be welcomed on the day of the camp.

Dynamo announce schedule

DAYTON — Dayton Dynamo FC, of the National Premier Soccer League, will play 10 home matches. Six of these will be NPSL regular season matches, all against Midwest East Conference opponents. The four other home dates will be exhibition matches, including one against FC Cincinnati of the United Soccer League.
